We were delighted when Margate in Kent took centre stage in 2022 as the setting for Academy Award® winning director and writer Sam Mendes’ latest film, Empire of Light, starring Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward and Colin Firth.
With its beautifully portrayed characters, and story that tells the tale of love, life and the power of human connection and community, we couldn’t have been more excited to see Kent’s coastal town star as the backdrop to this moving drama.
To maximise this opportunity we partnered with Searchlight Pictures, Thanet District Council, Kent Film Office, and local attraction Dreamland Margate, to design and deliver a destination campaign (lasting one month) for the county around the release of the film. Key activity included the creation of new content, a film locations map, influencer activity and videos.
During the month long campaign, our dedicated Empire of Light page received nearly 5,000 page views and a dwell time of over 4 minutes with our paid social media activity generating nearly 200k impressions.
