canterbury-credit-visit-kentFor many years, Kent tourism did not have the benefit of substantial national and regional government funding and its potential as The Garden of England was slipping. Visit Kent was established in 2002 to establish strong and recognisable identity for the county and attract funding, in partnership with Kent County Council, Medway Council, the District and Borough Councils, and leading tourism businesses.

Since its inception, Visit Kent has firmly established Kent as a place of rich heritage, iconic coastline, exciting cities and towns, quality local produce and appealing culture through innovative marketing campaigns. The organisation has secured more than £25 million of UK and European funding, and Kent’s visitor economy is now worth £3.6 billion, welcoming 60 million visitors a year and supporting 72,000 jobs.

In 2015, following an open competitive tender process, Hertfordshire County Council and client-placeholder-2Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership awarded Go To Places an initial two-year contract to develop a destination management service to strengthen the county’s inbound tourism and highlight Hertfordshire’s attractions.

Visit Herts officially launched in September 2015 and the team brought together tourism attractions, local businesses and public sector partners to collectively identify Hertfordshire’s unique position and identity, and to heighten its offer to the world.

The tourism service launched in full in 2016, with a brand new website, social media channels, and the first ever Herts Big Weekend consumer events. The service is now responsible for driving visitors to the county through marketing campaigns, increased digital presence and partner liaison.

Hertfordshire’s visitor economy is now worth £2.1 billion, supporting 38,000 jobs and welcoming 25 million visitors a year.
